Myrtle Beach - 005

Myrtle Beach June 2024

One year, my family held our annual reunion at Myrtle Beach. I never felt a strong urge to visit this place, but I took the opportunity to spend time with my loved ones. We stayed at a family resort within walking distance of the beach and I was extremely lucky to get a room facing the ocean.

At night, from my balcony, you could see people on the sand with flashlights, searching for shark teeth. I didn’t find any during my own exploration. With just my phone flashlight in hand, I started to wonder if the tale was simply made up to keep people entertained.

While walking along the beach the very next morning, I made sure to bring my camera. I observed people doing what people usually do at the beach—sunbathing, playing sports, taking walks, and children laughing and running around. Then I noticed a man, looking down. There’s no way this photo would have turned out the way it did if I had been just a few degrees off. I brought the camera to my eye, carefully leveled the horizon, pressed the shutter, and kept walking.

Now, when I look at this photo, I can’t help but wonder, what was he thinking about? Was he in a good place?
